Using our progressive HydroChill® cooling technology, we’ve gone up against summertime heat in a smart and straightforward way. A simple add-on to the turf’s filling provides a mean cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works on its own when hydrated by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY

Perspiration is an ordinary cause of thermoregulation known as evaporative cooling. Evaporation of condensation from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. Similarly, HydroChill® has been shown to cool artificial green surfaces by the same process. As the turf surface is warmed by solar radiation, water kept in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating wetness eliminates heat, leaving behind a cooler, more comfortable surface for the players.

  • HydroChill® implements moisture to produce a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation can help keep your lawn cool for days, subject to local weather.
  • HydroChill® can be incorporated into most of Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.
  • HydroChill® will not change the stability or warranty of Southwest Greens’ products.
  • HydroChill® is UV-resistant and needs to be re-treated every two years for max effectiveness.

WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?

Environmental temperature outside doesn’t completely determine surface temperature. The solar radiation time period, the sun’s angle, cloud cover, wind, and many other elements all contribute to the temperature of the surface.

HydroChill® provides maximum benefit when the sun is closer to the Earth, as shown in the solar radiation calendar. During the summer season in Fresno, the sun sits high in the sky, causing surfaces to absorb more heat, resulting in warmer temperatures. The Earth’s rotation is also responsible for hourly variations in light therefore making HydroChill® most efficient during the hotter part of a clear day when most needed.
